About Us
Bornmotorheads.com started out as a way to display the project cars and trucks my friends and I were working on. We were building primarily Camaro’s, 32 Fords and whatever unique project car or truck that came our way. Soon my garage was too full and the time came to find a shop to work out of.
My friend Eric Wenzel owned a shop called Wen-Sen Metal Fabrication. I took my 1974 Camaro to Eric for a repair on the lower rear quarter panels. This Camaro was in very clean condition and had all new interior parts and pieces installed. The engine was a 406 cubic inch small block with about 500 horsepower. Transmission was a turbo 400 and the rear end was a 8.5” posi , 3.73 gears and disc brakes.
Eric liked the Camaro and wanted to buy it. I told him what I had invested in the car and he wanted to do some trading with the 1984 Buick Regal T-Type, hence Project Pro-Street Regal. Eric and myself agreed upon the terms and I asked him how much to rent a space at his shop to work on Project Regal. Eric did not charge me anything for the space and I offered to give him a hand with his business and how to run the day to day operations.
This next part was tough. I keep a lot of things in my head when I probably shouldn’t. My wife Delinda liked the Camaro and new we needed to sell the car when it was finished to recover the money spent. I took her to dinner and after a margarita I told her I was trading the Camaro for the Buick. My wife is very understanding and at that particular point she wasn’t very understanding. We ironed things out and decided to move forward………”Whew”.
I started working on Project Regal and giving Eric a hand with his business. My background was 30 years of working with my family business, A-1 Automotive and Tire Servicing.
Eric and I found out we went to the same high school and had quite a few of the same friends. Eric is a fantastic person and very honest. People can take advantage of these situations when businesses are involved and expect “deals”. It is hard to say no when you need cash flow on a day to day basis. Those “deals” can take you down and at that point Eric was finding out the business he had worked so hard to start, was not going to work. Eric had asked me if I wanted the business and I said I would work a deal with him but not with the present business name. We both agreed upon terms for me to purchase the business and I renamed it FABSHOP.
When you flip a business it takes time and effort. With help from my Wife good friend Tom Amacher we pulled it off and are on our way. The website is www.fabshopz.com for location and contact informatiion in case you are in the Portland Oregon or surrounding areas.
We currently work on a day to day basis as the customer base is built. The project cars and trucks will be posted in the galleries which link off both websites.
Thanks for looking.
